Bored of the current music
trends the band set about defining their own unique sound, their goal
being to create the band they wish existed. They combined pop choruses
with industrial rock fuzz and in doing so managed to catch the attention
of producer Andy Gray (U2, Gary Numan, Tori Amos) who offered to mix a
Plastic Toys track. This song, ‘Let Me Feel The Love’ was handed round
by record execs for 6 months, they all liked it but had no idea how to
classify what they heard. Consequently, despite being offered contracts
by UK indie labels and major production companies alike Plastic Toys
have opted at this stage to strike out on their own, setting up the
label Hill Valley Records on which the 1st single and album
will be released. This soon to be released album was totally self
produced, again because the band wanted to keep any interfering hands
off their work. The only outsiders are Andy Gray who mixed 2 tracks and
Tom Baker (NIN, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson) who mastered the record.
Plastic Toys have played
shows right across the UK steadily gaining a loyal fanbase and a
reputation as a great live band. Recent shows have included Club NME
with Shiny Toy Guns, sold out headliners @ The Joiners - Southampton,
and Uni shows @ Stoke, Southampton and Winchester. Their fans voted for
them in vast numbers to win an ITV ‘Best Unsigned Band’ competition as
well as to the number one spot on BBC Radio 1’s ‘One Music’ online
chart.
Radio play of the band’s
demos has been widespread. BBC Radio 6, Total Rock, Kerrang Radio and
LA’s Indie 103 have all featured Plastic Toys’ music. Scuzz TV currently
has the video for ‘Let Me Feel The Love’ on regular rotation despite the
fact the record is not even released.
The wide appeal of the
music is being harnessed by the media industry with Virgin and Casio
already using Plastic Toys music in their advertising campaigns. A
recent documentary DVD about Depeche Mode sees Plastic Toys tracks
featuring prominently.

What the
Press Say
"Plastic Toys are tight and fast, imbued with an effortlessly cool mix
of testicle contracting metal licks, grooves and disco sleaze. Recorded,
they're exactly the kind of band you want to see live. Live, they're
exactly the kind of band you want to keep playing until your legs give
way, and then some" Matt Golding - The Fly Magazine
"One of my favourite
Southampton bands at the moment - Plastic Toys have been around on the
Southampton circuit for a while but are really exploding now. Every gig
they play in Southampton seems to be a sell out. Lead singer Jon really
whips the crowd up and loves to put on a show while Bass player Kitty's
dress is sure to catch the attention of the lads! The band have a
reputation for attracting the best dressed fans in Southampton! They
work hard on their image but it isn't style over substance - their mix
of electro Marilyn Manson-esque Rock kicks ass live. Their debut album
is storming - songs of debauchery and sex if you wanna rock out do not
miss Plastic Toys. Track to watch out for: "Let me feel the love",
"Tonight only"
